Dame Maggie Smith has died today and is now joining Alan Rickman in the Afterlife.

Maggie Smith's portrayal of McGonagall was touching. She had a genuine interest in the student's best interest, but was firm and no-nonsense. Firm but fair. That requires dramatic range, and she serves as an inspiration to other teachers I know.
